Hohe Tauern National Park & Grossglockner: Salzburg Province Motorbike Tour

Between Pass Roads and Natural Forces

Out and About in the Hohe Tauern National Park Region

Ready for some name-dropping? Grossglockner High Alpine Road, Gerlos Alpine Road, Nockalm Road… these names make our motorcycle hearts race a bit faster. Yours too? Then hop on your bike and get ready for an adventure between breathtaking heights and Mozart chocolate in Salzburg. The iconic pass roads in the Hohe Tauern National Park and on Grossglockner are waiting for you.

From High-altitude Thrills to Mozart Balls

To the north, you’re quickly in Germany; to the east, you’re in Upper Austria; to the south, you can head via the Felbertauern Road to East Tyrol and Italy, or to the west, travel over the Gerlos Alpine Road to Tyrol – the motorcycle region here is as diverse as it gets. In the Hohe Tauern National Park, all options are open. After all, you’re exploring the largest national park in the Alps. Today, ride the Nockalm Road, tomorrow visit the spectacular Krimml Waterfalls, and afterward, head to the Kaprun High Alpine Reservoirs with the impressive Drossen Dam at 2,100 meters. We’ll save the region’s highlight for last: a ride on the iconic curves of the Grossglockner High Alpine Road.

Motorcycle evergreen in the Salzburg Province

A must-ride, evergreen, and simply the highlight of the Hohe Tauern region is the Grossglockner High Alpine Road. From Fusch on the Grossglockner Road, it mostly climbs alpine terrain for 48 kilometers into the heart of the Hohe Tauern National Park – 36 hairpin curves up to Kaiser-Franz-Josefs-Höhe with the Pasterze Glacier and across to the Carinthian side to Heiligenblut. The panorama at the Top of Austria is simply unique, as Grossglockner, at 3,798 meters, is the highest mountain in the country. A stop at the Edelweissspitze is also a must to once again enjoy the impressive views and snap some photos for your album.
