A biker meetup is more than a place to stop. It’s where riders meet, talk bikes and routes, and take a break. Here are ten famous meetups across the USA, from California to the Great Smoky Mountains, the Black Hills, and Texas Hill Country.
We’ll also show you how to add each meetup as a POI in calimoto and plan a winding route there.
The 10 Most Famous Biker Meetups in the USA
1. Deal's Gap Motorcycle Resort, North Carolina (Great Smoky Mountains)
At the southern end of US 129 sits one of the best-known biker meetups on America's most famous motorcycle roads: the Tail of the Dragon, with 318 curves in just 11 miles. Riders meet at the store, the Dragon's Den Grill, and around the legendary Tree of Shame, which is covered with broken bike parts left behind by riders who weren't quite so lucky on the Dragon.
Good to know: The resort is open seasonally, generally from late February or early March to mid-November. Check the current opening hours before you set off, and remember to stick to the posted speed limits.
2. Full Throttle Saloon, South Dakota (Black Hills)
Known as the "World's Largest Biker Bar," Full Throttle Saloon becomes a major gathering place during the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, with concerts, bike shows, camping, and its own distillery on site. After the original location burned down in 2015, the saloon was rebuilt about five miles away in Vale on Highway 79. It's also a great starting point for rides through the Black Hills.
3. The Rock Store, California (Santa Monica Mountains)
The Rock Store on Mulholland Highway has been a legendary biker meetup since 1961. On weekends, you'll find everything from vintage motorcycles to superbikes, and famous visitors over the years have included Steve McQueen, Jay Leno, and Arnold Schwarzenegger. It's open Friday through Sunday, so check the current hours before you ride out.
4. Cook's Corner, California (Santa Ana Mountains)
Cook's Corner is a Southern California biker institution at the junction of Santiago Canyon and Live Oak Canyon roads. The current roadhouse was built from a former World War II Army mess hall moved to the site in 1946, and it became a popular biker meetup in the 1970s. Today, riders come for food, drinks, live music, and the surrounding canyon roads.
5. Alice's Restaurant, California (Santa Cruz Mountains)
At Four Corners, where Skyline Boulevard (CA-35) meets La Honda Road (CA-84), Alice's Restaurant is a legendary Bay Area biker meetup. Originally built as a general store for the logging industry, it became a restaurant in the 1950s and was renamed after Alice Taylor in the 1960s. The menu even includes Harley and BMW burgers. From here, winding roads lead through the Santa Cruz Mountains and down toward the Pacific coast.
6. Iron Horse Saloon, Florida (Daytona Beach Area)
The Iron Horse Saloon in Ormond Beach is one of the Daytona area's best-known biker meetups. Six bars are spread across the property, including a military-themed bar in a converted bus and the Tree House Bar built around a tree. The biggest crowds arrive for Daytona Bike Week in late February and early March and Biketoberfest in October. The nearby Atlantic coast and Ormond Scenic Loop make it a great stop on a Florida ride.
7. Suck Bang Blow, South Carolina (Grand Strand)
Suck Bang Blow has been a Murrells Inlet biker meetup since 1996 and is one of the best-known destinations during the Myrtle Beach motorcycle rallies. The sprawling venue features several stages, live music, food, drinks, and its famous indoor burnout pit. The biggest events are the Spring Rally and Fall Rally, with the Grand Strand offering plenty of coastal riding while you're there.
8. Wheels Through Time, North Carolina (Blue Ridge Mountains)
Maggie Valley is a great base for exploring the southern Appalachians, and Wheels Through Time is a must for motorcycle fans. The museum houses more than 350 rare American machines from brands including Harley-Davidson, Indian, Excelsior, and Henderson. It's known as "The Museum That Runs" because many of its historic machines are still operational. The Blue Ridge Parkway is just five miles away.
9. Frio Canyon Motorcycle Stop, Texas (Hill Country)
Frio Canyon Motorcycle Stop in Leakey is the official headquarters of the Three Twisted Sisters, the famous Texas Hill Country ride along Ranch Roads 335, 336, and 337. Located directly on RR 337, the stop has a motorcycle shop and the Bent Rim Grill. On weekends, you can even stop for breakfast, and there's live music every Saturday evening. It's the perfect place for a break before getting back to the curves.
10. Johnny's Bar & Grill, California (San Benito County)
Johnny's Bar & Grill in Hollister is closely tied to one of the most famous stories in American biker culture. In July 1947, thousands of motorcyclists descended on the town for a motorcycle rally. A widely circulated LIFE magazine photo helped turn the event into legend and later inspired the 1953 movie "The Wild One" starring Marlon Brando. Johnny's keeps that history alive with photos and memorabilia from the era. Every July, the Hollister Independence Rally brings motorcycles back to downtown Hollister.
