Tour Report: The Pyrenees and Bardenas Reales

Our French calimoto user Mulet-Cycle was on the road with his motorcycle for almost three weeks in the northern Pyrenees Mountains. From exciting mountain passes to a charming desert, to romantic sunsets on the coastal roads, this tour has it all! But we'll let Mulet-Cycle tell you about it himself. 😉

Let's go! 🏍

Starting from Clermont-Ferrand, the French tire capital where Michelin was born, I planned most of my trip on my computer using the calimoto website before I took off! Uploading the GPX files onto my calimoto app, I made it to the Pyrenees in a day and a half. After 600 km through smaller, less-traveled roads the app sent me down, I ended up in the mountain to enjoy the nature and the landscape!

The next day, I traveled through many mountain passes to cross into Spain and finally reach the Bardenas Reales desert! I spent two days there exploring this extraordinary place on off-road trails! The Spanish flavor was at full blast.

Afterwards, I hit the road towards the Atlantic coast for a little beach ride. That was not planned in my initial tour, so I asked the app to take me there via random roads. And that was a great idea! On my way, I went through Haro, the Spanish Wine capital where the well-know Rioja is made. Again, I found myself traveling through unexpected roads and mountain passes, and I enjoyed that day as much as the others. I spent the night south of Bilbao alongside the ocean to breath the fresh air!
Next, I rode up along the coast to reach Biarritz and then Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port where the Pyrenees crossing started. From there, it took four days through mountain passes and trails to reach Andorra on the other side.

For me, it was the best part of the trip! Savage atmosphere, wild animals and awesome rides on and off the road. It was like nowhere else!

Crossing the border a few times, from France to Spain and back again, I finally arrived in Andorra. There I spent a day exploring a couple mountain passes, as well as one mythical summit for the bikers, the Pic Negre.

After 12 days, my trip was coming to an end. I headed up to Clermont-Ferrand via a portion of the TET (Trans European Trail). But the weather turned terrible and cold, so I finally turned back towards home.

In the end, this road trip took me 16 days for 4700 kilometers of pure enjoyment! Switching from roads (70%) to off roads (30%), it as been my best adventure so far. And having calimoto with me on tour was the best choice! For memorable, improvised trips or just to find the next petrol station, it has been my trustworthy companion.
